Meet Spotty aka Big Foot

He's a nice mellow guy with big ol’ feet.

He's between 6 and 8 years old and his eyesight is a little off, but it doesn’t slow him down. Big Foot loves to play with toys, chase the tennis ball, and roll around in the grass.  He's fun to watch. Sometimes he bumps into things but I think it's because he doesn't realize his size and his eyes aren't what they use to be.  Hence the Big Foot name.

Spotty aka Big Foot

He was found as a stray in Cape May, NJ, however, he seems like he must have been someone’s pet. His dewclaws are removed, and he’s friendly around kids and strangers.  I'm not sure but he might have been a hunting dog and when his eyes went maybe whoever owned him let him go.  That's just me speculating.  He's also very familiar with a crate.  He goes into it often, which makes me again guess that he was someone's pet at one time, and he must have been crated.

Watching TV from his crate

Big Foot walks well on a leash. He is an excellent car rider and will fall asleep in the back seat. When he is awake in the car he looks out the window and is very calm.

He’s an older guy, but he’s as sweet as can be. His fur is very soft and he doesn’t mind if you hug him, kiss him, or lift him. He loves to be petted and will lay with you to watch TV.  My dog Sadie and him get along great.  Sadie wants to play, but for now he has to take it easy since he's getting over heartworms. In a weeks time they'll be running around the yard causing racous.

Big Foot is up to date on all his vetting, but was heartworm positive. He was treated last week and is scheduled for a retest and will be neutered in apprx 3-4 weeks.

Special Diets

Chocolate is currently on Z/D allergen food which the highlight ingredient is “hydrolyzed chicken liver.” Mmmm sounds yummy, even for a dog. To be rather frank, the food is kind of gross and not the most appealing in looks or smell.

In order to help test out his diet and try to figure out what his food allergy is, I started this week off with Blue Wilderness dog food. It’s holistic dog food that is 100% grain free, high in protein and low carb. I purchased the dry duck food, and the canned duck and chicken grill. Reading the ingredients I can identify and pronounce what’s listed, which is a good thing.

The “True Blue Promise” guarantee’s that only natural ingredients are used:

  • The first ingredient is real duck
  • No chicken or poultry by-product meals
  • No corn, wheat or soy
  •  No artificial preservatives, colors or flavors
Chocolate has been eating his natural duck diet for the past week and is doing fine. No hair loss, so lets keep our fingers crossed!
