All Dogs go to Heaven

Big Foot after he got into a fight with the garbage can.

With a heavy heart I report that Big Foot passed away on Friday, May 13th around 8 p.m.  Early in the day he had a high fever of 105.5 and was taken to the vet.  Later in the evening it was agreed to move him over to Garden State Animal Hospital for overnight observation since his fever only decreased to 104.  Unfortunately, he passed shortly before he was suppose to be transported.

On the way home after being pulled from the Cape May shelter.  He was tuckered out from a busy day and fell fast asleep.

Big Foot was old, we'll never know how old, but he was a senior dog.  He had two tick diseases that included Lymes.  He was treated with antibiotics twice since I had him and it did help with his stiffness.  Big Foot had his good days and his bad days.  Some days he slept a little longer and others days he wanted to play a little longer.

Big Foot at the L'Oreal event in August.  I just couldn't adopt this handsome boy out.

Even though I had Big Foot as a foster in August and then officially mine mine in November, it was the best nine months with a dog I've ever had.  I wouldn't change it for anything.  Instead of dwelling on the short time we had together, I remember all the fun we had together.

Me and my 69lbs lap dog.

I know he's up in doggy heaven hunting birds, rolling in dirt and chasing tennis balls.  It's true when they say rescue dogs know they were rescued and in return, they rescue their owners.  Thank you Big Foot for an amazing time together.

Don't know where,don't know when.
But I know we'll meet again, some sunny day." ~ Vera Lynn

Big Foot, I miss you and will always love you.  Godspeed my brown headed companion.

Meet Polly Pocket Prissy Pants

Polly
Polly Pocket is a GSP, but I suspect some hound dog in this one.  Polly was found tied to a pole at a gun club in NY and picked up by animal control.  The shelter staff loved her, but then Polly was heartworm positive and couldn't afford to treat her. Once again Eastern German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue came to save the day so she wouldn't have to be put down.

The shelter dubbed her "Polly Pocket" because she's a little lady and is on the shorter side.  Polly's been spayed, updated on all her shots and was treated for heartworms.  She enjoys the outdoors and walk well on a leash. Inside, Polly is mellow and loves to follow her foster family around. When they rest, so does she.  Polly is housebroken, crate trained, comes when called and knows "sit."

Polly did not get along with other dogs at first.  I call her prissy pants because she's a typical girl - she gets moody.  It might have been the heartworm treatment but she's become less moody.  By moody I mean she likes her space.  She would growl at her foster brother and sister if they hovered over her while she tried to nap, which I don't blame her.  Who wants a brown head hovering over them while they're trying to sleep.  I would state that Polly isn't good at first meetings when it comes to dogs, she needs to warm up to them.  Once she does them it's all gravy.

While she was treated for heartworms she began to be more and more curious about the other dogs.  She would cuddle up next to them to sleep and when they would wrestle in the yard she wanted to join in.  However, since she was treated for heartworms she couldn't play for three weeks but now she can.  She likes to play tug-a-war and chase the tennis ball.

Polly is very mellow so she would do well in a less active family or for an older couple.  She would be fine with an active family too.  Polly could live in a home with one other dog, however she would definitely have to meet them first and get acquainted.  She's a cutie that wags her tail all the time and is waiting for her forever home.

Meet Miss Foxie Roxie

Roxie

Roxie's story begins with her being picked up as a stray back in MI.  While she was in foster care she was spayed and brought up to date on her shots.  Roxie was obviously used for breeding purposes and was probably dumped on the side of the road because whoever owner her was done breeding her, hence why she had a mammary tumor.  Roxie had it removed and it was benign.

Roxie was transported to NJ where she is now in foster care with me.  When I first had her she was a tornado.  She jumped all over the place and couldn't figure out the whole home setting.  Since she's a stray I don't know what her living situation was like before, but I don't think she was indoors much.  I also had just received Polly and at that time, Polly was not dog friendly.

Roxie headed to Camp Bow Wow where she charmed the camp counselors and made many friends.  Once Polly was settled I picked Roxie up and tried to re-introduce the two.  Roxie is a very social dog, Polly on the other hand was not.  Polly needed time to warm up and now they get along fine.

Roxie is very smart.  She learned "no" rather fast.  She was a major counter surfer but hardly does it anymore.  She also knows "sit," "stay" and "down."  She does well on a leashed and gets super excited when she sees the leash.  She knows it's walking time.  Roxie is also an excellent car rider.  She bounces around for about five minutes and from then on she either goes to sleep or lays across the back seat looking out the window.

Napping with Big Foot
Roxie is high energy but don't let her fool you, she's really good at taking naps.  She will run five miles with you or watch a movie without interruption.  The only thing she request is that she be close.  Where I sit, she needs to be right up next to me, typical Velcro GSP.  She just wants to be loved and she is.  I love Roxie and she is just as sweet as can be.  She even found me a present in the yard the other day.  And by present I mean a dead bird.  She points often and she's leggy.  When she runs she's very gazelle like.  Despite her prey drive she has yet to even attempt to jump the fence.  I think she likes it here so she'll wait for the critters to come into her yard.

Roxie has been a pleasure to have so far (excpet for the first day lol).  She's obviously been through a lot and I would really like to see her go into a family as a second dog or an active family.  She's friendly with all ages of people and dogs.  She's just a sweetheart and needs a family that's going to treat her right.  She deserves it.
